Habitat for Humanity partners with low-income individuals and families in need of decent housing, working alongside them as they build their homes, and helping them achieve the strength, stability, and self-reliance they need to build a better life. Habitat homebuyers contribute hundreds of hours of sweat equity during the construction of their home and other families’ homes, and purchase their home via an affordable mortgage. By providing affordable home ownership opportunities to those who would not otherwise have them, Habitat helps to break the cycle of poverty. In some Colorado communities, Habitat also offers repairs to owner-occupied units, helping low-income homeowners who are often elderly and/or veterans, complete much needed functional and/or structural improvements.
Habitat for Humanity of Colorado was founded in 1992 to build the capacity of affiliates by increasing access to resources, facilitating communication between affiliates and the community, and providing statewide leadership toward the create of thriving communities that support healthy families.
